A Taste for Hopefulness

A Taste for Hopefulness

A Poem by James K. Blaylock

A Taste for Hopefulness

the void is awaiting
us to step ever closer
unto it's nothingness,

we are merciless to
this vacuum unless

we've first had a taste
of formed hopefulness...

and faith in something
is the beginning to
a life of enlightening

Such truthful words here.

I liked this poem but was a little confused about its elements. Does it refer to life and death or faith and atheism?? I don't think we can evade death by a little hopefulness. Or perhaps you wrote this with dying people in mind, who have been known to hold on a little longer with their determination and hope.

Would be grateful if you could clear my confusion. Thanks!
