Shot Down from the Moon

Shot Down from the Moon

A Poem by James K. Blaylock

Shot Down from the Moon

as youths we were taught,

to shoot towards the moon...

but as adults we're told

to quit daydreaming and soon...

we should remove our thoughts

from any peaceful schemings

and focus only on the task at hand,

and now surely forgetting when we

fancied ourselves such astronauts

Isn't this the truth.
As a kid i used to go outside and look toward the moon
and say goodnight to the man on the moon.
Things we do when we are little.

No but I get what you are saying.
I got told to shoot for the stars.
In turn i would say "Why I like them daddy!"
Without them i would be sad.

He would only say go to sleep.
Well written write. enjoyed.

VERY TRUE! Good point, jkb. I always love reading your poems, because they say something in the beginning, say something else in the middle, and tie it all together at the end. I'm gonna suggest this piece to a friend. Love it!!

Wow...I really like the content of this one. It is so very true as it is the theme of almost every graduation ceremony. Yet, as adults we would be labeled a hopeless dreamer. Bit of a double message. Kudos on the write.
