Mother of Night

Mother of Night

A Poem by James K. Blaylock

Mother of Night

the mother of night

gives birth to the stars
with a mere kiss

and the moon doth glow
upon her lovely wish,

she speaks to the night owls
and loons alike, but by morn

she's gone to vanish

My favorite style:

Explaining the universe in a few words.
Anyone who can speak of the night and stars
and the coming of the day, in one breath, is some kind
of genius who has written a classic poem here.

Although only a few words are used, the meaning is crystal
clear, the message flowing like ice water from a spring .
The spring flowing from a mountain of wisdom.

Beautiful writing !

Really nice jkb. The images are universal yet here you have made them new and intriguing once again. I do not totally understand the last line. As usual, it beautiful. You really show how to do more with less. In fact it is one of the reasons I like your poetry. I could spend an hour pondering this...it has depth...but tonight I just want to read and move on...I can do that as well... thanks for sharing, t.

Absolutely beautiful. I love what this says. I would never have thought of describing the stars
coming out this way, but as always you brought it out beautifully.

Love it my friend.

You make the night so alive, a giver of life and light. A brilliant picture of the sacredness after sunset.

Sarah Williams: "Though my soul may set in darkness, It will rise in perfect light, I have loved the stars too fondly To be fearful of the night"

I like this....especially the mythical element which you only elude to, which over doing it. Only, small pick--doth. Every time I hear this I think of either Spinal Tap's Stonehedge or Tenacious D, which makes it into a parody for my brain.
