Wow! I think I got this, we are the rats, chasing and running, though I despise rats, I see us, writers of being the few in the circle and the snake, who is full of envy is ready to devour us so we can go away, because only the few in that circle are really worthy.

If that's not what you meant that's what I felt. or maybe is just all humans, and the few are the good, and again very rare and subject to being devoured by the snake.

either way it's a wonderful write from one of my favorite pen artist.
