A Divine Meeting

A Divine Meeting

A Story by James K. Blaylock

A Divine Meeting

She was so tired, tired of all of these things in life that somehow just
seem to happen.

Her life had always seemed so plagued by such as the likes of, pain and more
miseries than she'd like to remember. From such a young age too.

She could remember the day her beloved grandmother had passed on, it was a
clear Summer day. Her mother told her we have to go see Nana today, would
you like that?

When they drove up there was nothing to indicate anything out of the
ordinary going on really. They go out of the car and strolled up to the
door, they had been talking about seeing Nana then stopping off for ice
cream later.

Although at the time, they didn't know that this wasn't to be. You see Nana
had gotten up early this day like any other, showering then dressing, and
feeding her kitty named Gray. Somewhere along the day after that though it
is somewhat a mystery, but what is known is that she was gone before they
had even pulled up into the drive-way.

Upon going into her house and calling out to her, they became rather spooked
and began looking from room to room. Mother was the one to have found her
she was down on the floor, it was said that she'd fallen off of something
high, then hit her head.

Then a few years later, like clockwork, her father had been in a terrible
fire at work. He was trying to save all his work-mates lives, when after
coming out with the injured, then running back in he was not seen again.

This death hurt far more than Nana's ever could've, not that she didn't love
her Nana; she just adored her Daddy.

She tried her very best to go visit with him just as often as she could, but
it killed her to read his name on that cold piece of marble even, after all
of these years.

Mother had crawled into a bottle and never came back out, so it seemed to
her. I guess those pains tore her up just as much, if not ever more so. Plus
she had had a husband pass away, before see was ever born, from a first
marrage.

He drown, one day while out fishes. All alone on a nice day at his favorite
spot. Maybe he went in a nice state of mind, looking at those wonderful
swimming beasts. Or maybe he went fighting for life, God really only knows
for sure.

He was found by some kids out walking their dog, three days later. I guess
we all have our own sorrows to deal with in this life, she thought to
herself. Maybe they grew to forget that first ever brush with death, over
time and maybe help from a trusted therapist.

She was walking in a straight-line down the street, on this warm summer's
day. With so much pain hanging above her head, that black cloud floated ever
so near. It's oozy acid rain flowing right into her mind.

She began to wonder if the note she'd left for her mother and friends would
be enough to sooth the ache of her choice. Even if it wasn't, she was sure
that they would all be fine without her.

We all have to overcome our demons she thought, even if that means killing
yourself to do so.

Nearing the water's edge, she noticed that there were no rocks of any kind
on the beach.

Then she began to feel glad about the fact that she had decided, the moment
she stepped out of her house to grab one whenever she saw it, and tucked it
away in her pocket, just in case the beach had none to offer for her last
case.

Walking to the water she then began to wonder just what her life's worth was
really, I mean knew that it mostly made up burden and pains galore; but was
there a deeper meaning?

The water was so fresh and cool as it loved on his bare feet, she thought
that it was to-be a perfect death really.

She then began to tear-up, not knowing why really, because she had been
through all those painful parts of life, and so often that she somehow
became tearless after so much sorrow.

No one would miss her very much she was sure of it, though it still brought
more salt-water to her eyes. She had no husband nor boyfriend to worry about
her anymore, as she always had a way of running them all away with a iron
wall of impenetrable between herself and anyone else.

Before she was chest-deep in the ice chilled blue, she began to pray for the
first time since she was a mere child. It was funny how easily it came back
to her after it being so long ago, since she'd last done it.

She prayed for her family, friends and for the strength to be able to go
through with this.

It was then, that with her eyes closed she felt a strange warmth all around
herself. It couldn't be she thought as she opened her sad eyes again, it was
bright at first then settled to a sweet golden hue color. This light then
took form, and was now her beloved Nana.

"Child you mustn't do this, darling" It spoke. "Nana, am I in heaven?" she'd
asked.
"Oh my God, you look just how I remembered you!" she now exclaimed. "Listen
to me, my dear girl, you can do this" spoke the lighted being.

"No, you are not in heaven either" It now offered. She was crying so hard
that all was becoming a blur, she then ask "What are you doing here then?".

"I came for you, and to tell you that this isn't the way for you" It stated.
She just could not help all these waterworks, it was like a life-time of
pain rolling out, and all at once.

"Nana, why has my life been so very bad?" she then asked with a cracking
voice. The being then told her "This life is not our own, God put us all
here for a reason, child it's up to us to find out that reason".

She then wiped away most off the tears with her already wet palms, and then
decided to not do this after all. Her Nane then smiled and told her "I love
you deary, I'll see you again soon enough someday" then vanished.

She was going to give this life another shot, she thought as she walked home
with the sun warming her weary shoulders.

Very touching James, I know her feeling, sometimes this world could be cruel and loneliness, can make you wish for an escape and all we see is death as the welcoming relief. Well written and absobing.

A heart touching story. The chain of deaths makes the story tragic and interesting in the same time.
The last part, with the appearance of Nana takes the story away from realism a bit, but it's good just the same.
I like the format you chose for this.
