Things Lost in the Fire

Things Lost in the Fire

A Poem by James K. Blaylock

Things Lost in the Fire

as the

sharp flames,

reach out

lickingly...

we knew

all'd be

lost, and

this day

would surely

engrave itself;

herein our

sad, lonely

hearts, with

haunting memories

of such

hefty cost

Hey - you dunnit again -
...this brought images of Danny's `weight of ownership` in Steinbeck's `Tortilla Flat` where his place burns down at the end... but then fire was here to take things away long before Steinbeck...
your work is so cool man!
I love the way you conjure up so much with so few words.. wow - `sharp flames`
you have inspired me so much with your work...

[as sharp flames] would give you another on line to balance the later `haunting memories`...
don't take any notice of me though I'm just here for the ride... just as `Danny` was...
nice end to my day this...
cheers - again

Is this written fro your own experience? You did an awesome job on this. I'm speaking from experience myself. My family lost everything we owned in a fire when the kids were small, shortly after leaving all our family and moving 10 hrs away. This really brings out that empty, raw, and isolated feeling you get. Thankfully we had many hundreds of people whom we didn't know, love us thru that horrible time. I feel for those who don't have it in that experience. We truly felt our heavenly Fathers loving presence thru them, and that time. We have really never been the same, for the good.
Thanks for sharing.

Deep and emotional poem. It is amazing that so few words can convey such much. Super job.
