Ugly Punch

Ugly Punch

A Poem by James K. Blaylock

Ugly Punch

hazing from the sunrise,

for its eyeing me, and

unfriendly doing so...

why, did I take that much;

knowing today would surely

offer only more ugly punch

I love the beautiful succinct punch - no pun intended - of this poem. The writing gives a sense of what that punch is like. The quickness of how fast a punch happens. If you had made this a longer poem it wouldn't have had that same jarring effect. I also love the line, "hazing from the sunrise." That's just gorgeous.

hmm is that it is eyeing me
or deliberately
its `eyeing me` as in state or condition
- another hot day - more sunburn? I don't know...
great to be left what? and why?
always a pleasure
cheers
