Childhood Fantasies

Childhood Fantasies

A Poem by James K. Blaylock

Childhood Fantasies

upon this summer concrete,

we'd kneel and doodle...

creating our childhood

fantasies all over warm walkways

You really bring it all back...all the fun and the warmth! If you went under a sprinkler, you could get warm on the sidewalk faster. One neighbor made me take a scrub brush and a bucket of soapy water and erase all the doodles on "her sidewalk." She couldn't just wait for it to rain.
James, this is beautiful. Clever thoughts shared in an unforgettable poem!

This describes many of the hours my sister and I spent decorating our own neighborhood walkways. No one can draw a hopscotch the way she could but no one can beat her the way I did! Love this one....

My childhood just came rushing back to me in one fell swoop after reading this :-)

You said so much with so few words. I am going to forward this to my sister, as I'm positive she will enjoy it as much as I have.

Four short lines creating a zillion childhood memories.

"upon this summer concrete, we'd kneel and doodle...

creating our childhood fantasies all over warm walkways"

I want to slip outside and doodle a rainbow on the footpath in front of my fence.

Damn - I think I just might do that.

Thank you for reminding of good childhood memories.

Looking back on the good old days, it's funny how a place where we make fun memories stays forever. The memory serves as a marker where we can go back to whenever we want, just to conjure up the old peaceful feeling again. As we get older, it's just not as easy to make innocent, sweet memories in a world that is so full of hate. I enjoyed reading this poem. For a moment, I was able to go back in time and remember days of ice cream face and happy go luck times.
