The Most Precious Flower

The Most Precious Flower

A Poem by JoshuaCmngs
"

Flowers are a gift from God.

"

I see your face among the daffodils

Those pretty little flowers,

I like to sit and enjoy their curves

I do it for hours and hours

The roses are so delicate

And in them lies your scent

I remember the times we had together,

And my heart is deeply rent

The lilies remind me of your purity

So delicate and pretty,

So kind to everyone and I,

Your presence affected me.

Strong like the Iris

With an Iron will

I don’t know how one can be

So strong, and yet kind still.

And like tired wave

Crashing on the shore

Your life ended so abruptly

But you live on in my heart, forevermore.

When you went and left this world

Behind you left a stain,

But I like to sit and enjoy the flowers,

It drowns out all my pain.

This lovely, thoughtful poem is very nicely crafted, taking into considerations various flowers & how their traits are reminders of the beloved. Even tho this is essentially a poem about sadness, there's a buoyancy that comes from appreciating the flowers more than bemoaning what's missing. I have a personal preference for using nature to convey important feelings in one's writing, something you've done so effectively here. My only drawback is that a couple of the rhymes felt like a stretch, but not distractingly so. Great job writing a very approachable poem.
