The Hardest of the Hearts

The true purpose behind a hard heart.

Our time is now through,

But I don’t want to depart,

Because the simplest of goodbyes,

Can break the hardest of the hearts.

 

In my palm I hold the key

Just know this is the start

Because the gentlest of the words

Opens the hardest of the hearts

 

I know that searing pain,

It comes in by the cart,

But the worst of the pain,

Bounces off the hardest of the hearts

 

It’s locked away inside,

It’s tearing you apart,

This is what’s sealed away

In the hardest of the hearts.

 

The hardest of the hearts,

After all, is just a cage,

It’s holding back the sadness,

All the pain, and the rage.

I really enjoyed this poem, I love how you kept repeating the line the hardest of hearts. this poem sounds very poetic, the way its written out, pretty brilliant.
This was full of emotion, and was pretty moving and meaningful.
