Cruel Mistress

Cruel Mistress

A Poem by JoshuaCmngs

Raven hair shining in the sun

She looked at him with her emerald eyes,

Those eyes like deep pools,

The windows to a soul,

The hallways to another world,

A dreamland to be lost in,

For forever.

Staring into those eyes

He never wanted to leave.

But he still loved her so.

But he knew,

He had always known,

There was no space in that land of dreams,

That world of twisting thoughts,

That abyss of emotion,

He knew,

There was no space for him.

His longing and passion

His desire for her simply took up too much space.

But he still loved her so.

He looked back in those corridors,

In those portals to another world,

And he felt his heart being torn from his soul.

She was a cruel mistress

He knew what she thought of him

All she noticed was his youth

His inexperience

His shortcoming,

And he was shamed.

But he still loved her so.

He desired her with all of his being,

His soul,

His might,

His very love for her made the tides change and the moon rise in the sky,

It held the stars in the sky at night,

It fueled the very sun

And provided the light and warmth for the whole world.

His love made the plants grow and the jays sing,

And intertwined itself with the heartbeat of every living creature,

But she felt nothing for him.

Yet he still loved her so.

With the strength of his love,

He could climb the highest mountains,

And build the tallest tower,

He could swim an ocean with just a single breath of air

And run the whole continent with not a drop to drink.

He could slay an army with his bare hands,

And hold up the entire weight of the world.

The force of his love would let him live forever,

But she felt nothing for him.

Yet he still loved her so.

He jolted back to the present

He had gotten lost in her eyes again,

But something had changed.

She had let her guard down,

And in her eyes her true feelings shone through.

She loved him.

She would do anything for him

But she denied herself the comforts so she could keep him focused.

She was not cold at all.

And so they both sat

Looking into the eyes of one another,

Each lost in their love,

But neither of them saying a word.

Amazing! This is so mind-blowing! I read that this is based on the Inheritance Cycle.... Those books were fantastic.
This just described Arya and Eragon's relationship so well..
Wow.
P.S- Did you know that there is an Eragon movie? Not as good as the books though.

Yeah, I knew about the movie. I wanted to kill whomever made it, it was terrible. Actually, The War .. read more

I like it, especially how the line "Yet he still loved her so." feels more deeper and meaningful every time. I don't know why, but I expected not so happy ending :)

Thank you for reviewing.
Magical is right, This poem was actually inspired by the relationship of two of the main characters of the Inheritance Cycle, which is about evil kings, dragons, magic, etc. Anyways, the way the series ended, I just got overwhelmed so I wrote this poem.

*sniffles* May I have a tissue, this is so pretty. Gold star for you! This was a beautiful story :) I looked into the eyes of some man before who I liked, but all there was was awkward silence. I was convinced that poems like these are more magical than actually performing it in reality.
