Even the Sacred Sun*A Poem by Paris HladEven the Sacred Sun -Concerning the Bronze Age- - Even the sacred sun must die " It is the way of things, Seen in the dust on snouted gods And stuffed Egyptian kings The frog that hopped Along the Nile, The lion on the plain - They perished in A time of drought Or in a time of rain Who built the great necropolis, Who bartered for the wheat, Who raised a phallic obelisk, Or tickled pharaoh’s feet Were painted Every stroke alike In colors that would fade, Into the walls of pyramids, Despite what spells were made.
