Lovers Lake

Lovers Lake

A Poem by Paris Hlad

Lovers Lake

-Inward Is the Tragedy-

-

We walk no more together

On the shores of Lovers Lake,

For dreams flee old affections

When new passions are awake

We walk alone and love as one,

For we are scarcely here

Quite long enough

To comprehend

What is most

Plainly clear

We are by chance,

By chance we love,

By love, we chance to be,

But lovers on a lovely lake

Who love but momently.

And wrongly loved, we wrongly live,

And wrongly dreams our dreams,

As we give up our lives to love,

Believing what it seems

And all our days are moored to that,

Or, in that, they seem so "

Then, inward is the tragedy,

And outward is the flow.
