Taking the Bair

Taking the Bair

A Poem by Paris Hlad

Taking the Bait

(Or Baiting the Hook)

I carefully let you off the hook

Then, you let me off the hook "

And I like being off the hook

Because then I am free

To bait a hook for you,

Which I know you will take

Because you are,

As I am,

Off the hook -

And only then, can I take

The delicious bait you offer,

Which is to say that,

You are something like the glow

Of votive candle light

That falls upon my secret book

And reads it through the night

And you are something like a hand

That holds a trembling star

When it has fallen from the sky

And loving goes too far.
