The Good Host

The Good Host

A Poem by Paris Hlad

The Good Host

The Glorious Triumph

Of the Dazzling Gentleman

Paris Hlad - An Affable Host,

Skilled in the Social Graces

-

My guests are gathered in my love; the evening welcomes all

A silk of social harmony spreads like a golden shawl

But near this scene, a demon leans against a crooked tree

And points a finger to her side; and then, she points at me

But not this evening will I go; I rise in faith bedight!

My guests are gathered in my love; I am the host tonight.

---

I am plagued by the curse of sudden sadness,

Particularly in formal social situations.

I am too often the death,

Though more regularly the indistinct,

And existentially disheartening vibe

That undermines the fragile conviviality of a party

Or impromptu get-together with unvetted strangers.

However, I am consistently a charming host "

So strong is my desire to please those

Who are my highly valued guests.
