A Kind of Cross

A Kind of Cross

A Poem by Paris Hlad

A Kind of Cross

A Poem Written Over a Period

Of 50 Highly Passionate Years

-

We have become a kind of cross:

An intersection comprised of extremes -

But to just sit here

Is to languish on behalf

Of existential ennui,

While to venture further

Is to agitate on behalf

Of primordial terror

Yet, a perfect cross

May be extended

Over a perfect sphere -

And although its lines will for awhile

Move farther and farther apart,

They will intersect again "

And again, and again

In exactly the same place

As long as

They continue

To extend.
