The Waters

The Waters

A Poem by Paris Hlad

The Waters

An Idealistic Fantasy About

An Attractive Way to Perish,

Given the Ugly Alternatives

If I could bend God to my will,

I think that I would make

A day when I could

Walk upon

The waters of a lake,

Where Christ himself

Would take my part

And guide me

Through the reeds

And share

The kindness

Of His eyes

According

To my needs

I think that he

Would give me wings

And bid me there to fly

Above the waters

Where I walked,

And He had

Come to die.
