A Chapter by Waiting For That Emo

The next day I sat on the couch, watching as Sophia and Jazz were laughing when Sop tried to teach him piano, and Jason went to get something to drink.

Jason came and sat down on the couch next to me. Though he could not see me, I was able to imagine him rapping his arms around me, and holding me close. I felt a burning tingle navigate up my spine, warming my entire body, as he inched closer to where I was sitting, when he had to make room for Jazz to sit down.

Sophia sat on the ottoman so that she could face Jazz and Jason, and ask them questions about their lives.

“What do you guys do, in your spare time?” Soph asked. She might be bold, but I can’t say she is any good at small talk.

“We’re in a band, Jason plays the guitar, and I sing. Then Dawn plays drums, and Tango is our bassist.” Jazz said with confidence.

“Awesome!” Sophie said, probably in awe that her guy could sing! Me? I had always been a fan of guitar, I even tried to play it once… I never practiced, so I was never any good, but I tried! “Anything else?”

“Nope!” Jason said a little too quickly, and when he saw Jazz giving him that questioning eyebrow raise, he walked back to the kitchen to refill his already full cup.

I felt a cold shiver as he left.

“Not really.” Jazz said, slowly turning his attention from Jason, back to Sophia. “But this…” Jazz circled his finger between Sophia, Jason, and himself. “…could be a whole new hobby on its own.”

Sophia rolled her eyes, playfully, and then went on asking Jazz personal questions.

I got up from my seat and followed Jason as he walked around the room… studying him. He wore dark colored skinny jeans that were tight, but just loose enough that they didn’t look gay. He had very strong, muscular arms that showed attractively through his loose, white, short-sleeved V-neck. His walk was slow… searched his surroundings. He stopped abruptly by Sophia’s fireplace and picked up a picture frame that stood on the mantel. I walked over, careful not to bump into him, for fear of startling him. I almost burst into tears when I caught glimpse of the photo… it was a picture of me.

I was sitting by the ocean, my straightened brownish-blonde hair musing every which-way with the wind. My eyes were a vibrant green, not red-eyed as they were in most pictures, and I was smiling brightly.

Sophia stopped dead in the middle of her sentence, and slowly walked up to Jason. “That’s Muse…” Sophia said with a sad smile. “It’s was a miracle to get her to take a picture, let alone smile in one.”

“She’s beautiful.” Jason said, as he carefully placed the photo back on its rightful place. I stared at it, feeling like I was staring at my own tombstone, tempted to knock it to the floor.

“Yeah! Try telling her that.” Sophia said as she chuckled. “We always told her she was pretty, but she never believed us!! She always called us liars!”

That’s because you are!!! I screamed to myself. I took the fugliest pictures known to man, but you feel the need to torture me with it anyway!!!

“What did she like to do?” Jason asked, his gaze never tearing from my photo.

“She loved music. The weirdest kind, too.” Sophia said as she searched the back of her brain for some of my old, favorite band names. “There was shins, bright eyes, death cars… and mouse something.”

“Death Cab, and Modest Mouse.” Jason said smiling. “She’s got good taste.”

“Ha! She would have loved to hear you say that. She always complained that we listened to terrible music and her was sssoooo much better.” Sophia said, laughing as she reminisced.

“Jason, here, does the same thing.” Jazz added.

I was shocked. No one listened to my music. It just didn’t happen. For some reason, the world found pleasure in this crap called hip-hop or rap. I’d always dreamed of finding a person with the same musical interests as me, but I can’t say I had much time to look for someone that did.

I followed Jason back to his home, nothing stalker-ish, but our shared musical interests, sparked a new found curiosity in me. He lived in a small apartment, made for one, but could probably fit two. It was mostly white, with some black furniture… my two favorite colors. I sat on his desk as he sat on his bed playing First Day Of My Life by Bright Eyes, on his guitar. It was amazing. He closed his eyes for long periods of time and swayed softly to the melody, he sang with a deep, heart-melting voice, that reminded me a lot of The Maine, and I was speechless… not that it really mattered since, well… I’m dead, but still.

I walked over to him, careful not to get too close, but, being the klutz I always was, tripped over his acoustic guitar, making a loud strum as I fell onto the bed, passing through him.

Afraid of him freaking out and having him run away, I looked for a way out, but before I could seep through the wall, I saw Jason smile. He didn’t freak out, he didn’t jump to conclusions, he just gave an alluring half-smile. He lifted his head up a bit, opened his mouth and sucked in a breath, as if he were about to say something, but then closed it again. He shook his head and mumbled to himself that he was crazy.

He quickly raised his head up and had a strange look on his face. One that said he had an idea, but it was kind of funny. He got up and grabbed his laptop. I watched from behind as he searched through his itunes, stopping at on old band I used to listen to when I was still alive… Owl City.

Dear Vienna. I regarded the world as such a sad sight, until I viewed it in black and white…”

Tears swelled up in my eyes as I heard them sing my name. Jason looked up, an eyebrow raised, and looking like he was waiting for something, or someone.

It was something I never did, but when I saw his expression, it was my first guess. I guessed that he was waiting for me to move something, so I went back to the acoustic guitar on the ground and plucked three strings.

I saw him smile. It was overwhelmingly bright, with the combination of its broad shape and sharp, pearly white teeth. His gaze shifted all around the room, still seeming like he was waiting for someone, anticipating something. I knew it was stupid of me to try and show my presence to him. I knew the right thing to do would be to leave, and stop messing about, but I also felt caught. There was an intense feeling of something pulling me back.

I tried to make myself walked toward the wall, I tried to tell myself to get out, but instead I just watched as Jason stood up, stared up at his ceiling, and then in every direction. He was looking for me… well, he didn’t know it was me, but he was looking for whatever he thought I was. It was time to stop messing around. I seeped through the wall and out side air, but not without blowing a kiss to Jason as he searched, unsuccessfully.

Lovely, now I can't wait to read your next piece. I anticipate the next chapter and I'd like to tell you that if i were Vienna I, too, would probably fall for Jason. You've thought up his personality well.

Anticipating The Next Chapter,

I think you have some amazing potential as an author.
I loved your overall plot. Very, very good with some interesting twists, keeping me on my toes. I very much look forward to more writing from you :D
One thing in developing this story. The meeting between Jason, Sophia, Jazz, and your main character Vienna seemed all too coincidental, as well as the similarities between the two couples. A little diversity could add flavor to the relationships between your characters, especially with Vienna and Jason. Don't make them opposite, just don't make them the EXACT same person either.
Another factor was the sentence construction. Your sentences were pieced in such a way that it was confusing to read. One thing that might help there is to read through your stories and make sure they flow well.
All in all, great story. You have lots of talent and potential. Two thumbs way up :D

I love it! It rocks! The whole idea is very good, especially for a pre-teen. I hope you continue with it, I can't seem to stay on one topic long enough to figure out the middle. I can already guess what might be the plot line already, so maybe after you flesh the story out more you should go back and make everything a bit more mysterious, wait a bit longer to give everything away. That will give you story more suspense, make it last longer, and it gives a lot of time to explore different avenues in the story.

best of luck

It was wonderful it almost brought tears to my eyes. It gave me this warm feeling. And Jason is a smart boy. Very Smart. He could be falling in love with a ghost. Wink Wink.

And I only have one thing to improve.
"Though he could not see me, I was able to imagine him rapping his arms around me, and holding me close."
Maybe you culd put tis: "Though he couldn't see me, I was able to imagine him wrappin his arms around me, feeling his warm body close to mine, have him whisper loving words in my ear."
After all that it was wonderful. WRITE MORE PLZXS!!!!!!!! YOU NEED TO WRITE MORE OMFG!!!! YOU HAVE TO LIKE RIGHT NOW!!!!

Twitch. Twitch. Twitch. I'm going to put up the flag that I am generally brutally honest.

I am going to say right now that I love where this is going. Ghosts are one of my favorite things, and the direction this is headed is promising. However, I desperately want to correct those grammar mistakes. You have to forgive this English prick. I tend to have a grammar-dar. ;-D

Other than that, it has an interesting plot line, and the characters are wonderful. Keep me posted. Honestly.
