Ain't No Mountain

A story of love.

Ain't no mountain high enough,
Ain't no valley low enough,
Ain't no river wide enough,
To keep me from getting to you, babe.

The moonlight was shining down on my cat's back. You were sitting next to me on the couch as we watched 'I Love Lucy' reruns on the oldies channel. That was pretty much all we could get on my antenna-only TV. The light from the TV lit up your face and struck your hair beautifully. You leaned over and rested your head on my shoulder. I wrapped my arm around your shoulders. You snuggled into my neck as I kissed the crown of your head. I love you.

We walk down the street holding hands. We're heading to some chic downtown restaurant for a late lunch. I gaze over at you as we walk. You look even more beautiful in the light. We come to a cross-walk. As we wait for the light to change, I kiss you on the cheek. It was a risky move, but I love you. A passing car throws a Pepsi can at us, the driver shouting, "Queers!" I love you.

At the restaurant, we sit at a booth near the back. We sit across from each other, holding hands on the table. I gaze into your eyes and mouth I love you. You smile at me and mouth I love you too. I reach over and tuck a lock of your dark brown hair behind your ear. We lean together and kiss softly, tenderly. Smack! The waiter's menus hit the ground. The expression on his face is of horror, fear, and disgust. I look up at him with narrowed eyes. He scowls back at me. With his lips tight, he points towards the door. I c**k an eyebrow. He roughly grabs my arm and yanks me out of the booth. You try to stop him but he's too strong. Hurrying after us, you plead with the waiter, apologize, anything and everything to stop him from what he's going to do. But it's too late. He tosses me out of the door and shouts, "F**kin' dyke!" after me. You scowl at him with all your might and pull back to slap him but I stop you. It isn't worth it. But don't worry, I still love you
