I Need You Today

Photographs of yesterday pressed between the album page,

I brush the dust aside to see photographs of you and me…. Today

I open to a time I knew you loved me and I loved you,

Sun was gleaming in your hair, I imagined I was there…. Today

Here is one of both of us, I recall your tender touch

Here I sang my lullaby, God I felt like I would die …. Today

I turn through years of ups and downs, Halloween and evening gowns

I caught you with a happy tear, images like you are here …. Today

Here we are the day we wed, neither knew what lay ahead

The years went by so fast it seems, now you’re only in my dreams… Today

It’s almost like I’m holding you, they’re photographs but they will do.

It’s all I have to get me by, many times they make me cry…. Like Today

Here is one of the home we had, it shared out times both good and bad.

It hasn’t changed, I’m glad to say, I know for sure ‘cause I drove by .. Today

Somehow I feel you’re here with me, but photographs are all I see.

My mind is playing games I fear, I could swear it’s you I hear….. Today
