I Died in My Dream

I Died in My Dream

A Poem by Tumi

a dream

In My Dream

In my dream, I lay lifeless and still

a corpse embalmed, six feet’ neath the hill

legs tied, body wrapped like mummies sway

my mouth silenced, unable to cry out or pray

I was lowered descending in the dark haze

But I saw your eyes flashing in amazing grace

Tears well up, filling every shaded eyes with drops

But yours stay still, in constant rhythm sighs

Each last words, from love ones pleasures my heart

Like chills of frost in autumns mist

Your last word, a doubled edge piercing dart

Penetrating deeply above my wrist

Your tears not yours, but a hollow mask

Faint, unreal, tearing life apart

Your tears now covered by a slow hidden smirk

The veil lifted, I could see my blind eyes

The pain I felt was beyond every hell made

Its venom unknown, beyond all darkened shade

Just because my heart diverted once

You unleashed the darken burning torrents to haunt

But I woke, you were there by my side

Darkness fades, and the light resides

There are some mornings, we are more than grateful to wake up and realize it was all a dream. Enjoyed my visit. Thanks for sharing.

great flow. this keeps the reader on edge until the very end. frightening and telling. your words and imagery evoke the emotions associated with a nightmare such as helplessness and being trapped with no way out despite knowing that you don't want to be there. well done piece of strong writing. bravo.

it's halloween season and this scary little story is perfect timing!

The experience is cast as a dream, but actually has the flavor of a near death experience. The speaker encounters deceased relatives and is confronted by an indiscretion of years past. There is great relief at discovering it was just a dream, but one wonders if his mind had long desired to make peace with this part of his past.

That's a nightmare I wouldn't want to have. I think there are days when we roll around thoughts in our unconscious that pop up later in our dreams. These could be the result of worries or possibly anger.

Impressive writing here.

A powerful dream cast in powerful words. The short lines emphasize the emotion like panting and the continued reassurance that "you were there" is like a life raft floating close by. Nicely written

It's so relatable. The horror of the nightmare.
It's an interesting poem to read and how it portrays your fear.

That, my friend, was not a dream, that was one of the worse nightmares ever. You went through an experience which would have been extraordinary to endure: to see people, feel the thorns and - how horrific. Thank the all about for the waking relief, for feeling you were loved and that the proof for most sadness - like proof for happiness, shows itself when the time is right. Hopefully, hope, time, patience and trust, plus of course, faith called upon will help you through.

Nice poem, and relatable to many of us.

Nice idea, but really needs more work and could be shorter.
