To Lose A LifeA Poem by TulpiThe glitters the lights, the happiness flowing through The night has just begun for your friends and you. Encore the heart repeats Again and again The glass in your hands fills As much as it can contain In the wee hours of morning you stagger to your car You tell your friends you will drop them home from the bar One by one they wave you Goodbye as they go With loud cries of “See you tomorrow” But your head feels fuzzy you try and focus what they say Yet your ears start ringing and your hands slacken in the way At last you reach home you are too tired to go in You can’t even stand on your feet moving seems a sin You rest your head on the steering seeing the closed door Till at last nothing seems to register anymore The next noon the other guys wake up from their sleep And they get a news that makes them gasp and weep They have lost their friend who only the night before was with them He died of suffocation in the car, alcohol was what they could condemn Yet who was at fault I wonder during leisure How could this happen on a night of only pleasure? Did the drink kill the guy or was it he himself Who brought about this sorrow to others and to self? There’s isn’t any message that I want to share with you No instructions to follow no things to do To leave a question in the void is what I choose Is life so unnecessary that with so much ease you lose
