Chapter 2A Chapter by TrevorChapter 2 'The sun was hotter then usual today. Sitting in his tiny little tin shack he was reluctant to touch the siding, in fear that it would be hot and burn him. He was laying on the hard, crusty, dry ground. His bed, if you could call it that, was laying in the corner almost has hard as the ground itself. It wasn't much of a bed either. Just a small mattress that looked like it was made for an infants crib. He assumed it was suppose to be white but with all the dirt it was a rusty tan color. As he laid there dripping with sweat he wished that it would rain just once in this place. They barely gave their prisoners water around here. Not having water made the place smell bad. Everyone, being dehydrated, were throwing up. It left a very sour stench in the air that caused more people to throw up. This was definitely the last place he wanted to be a prisoner. He stood up slowly. He was weak and could barely walk. As he walked toward the front of his shack he walked out of the shade protecting him from the hot sun. Going from the shade to the sun almost made him pass out. Doing all he could to stand up he grabbed the bars to hold himself. They were hot, very hot. He didn't let go though. He looked up at the sky and saw the sun glaring at him, almost like it was mocking him. Staring at the sun he was hoping his eyes would burn out of his head and release all the things he had seen in the past year. Focusing on the sun he failed to notice someone walk up to his shack and hit his hands with a baton. He fell in pain yelling but nothing came out. His mouth was to dry. He looked up to see who had hit him but after staring at the sun he couldn't see much of anything. In a lot of pain he was trying to look at the hand that had just been badly injured. Still he couldn't see anything but a bright white light. He rolled on his stomach put his left hand, his injured hand, next to his stomach and crawled back in to the shade. The pain on his hand was unbearable. It had to be broken. He closed his eyes and tried to concentrate on calming down to help ease the pain. He opened his eyes and he could finally see again. He looked at his hand and saw his ring finger and middle finger completely destroyed. The middle finger was worse. He could see part of the bone sticking out. Seeing this mixed with dehydration and the hot atmosphere he felt sick. He leaned over his left and threw up. It was mostly dry heaves, he had no food and not much water to come up. His body couldn't take anymore and he passed out' His eyes opened, he panicked and immediately looked at his left hand. It was fine. He looked around and realized he was back in the white padded room. It was just another dream. A bizarre dream. It was just like the last one and they both felt so real. He was happy to be back in his padded room. Well happier then being in that dried up place in his dream. He sat up and looked around for Alexis. She was still passed out from that shock device they use. His back was still sore from it. A bruise was starting to form on his back. Every time they use that thing it's always in the same spot. The middle of the back and directly on the spine. They had only used it twice on him. Both times were to be brought back to his padded cell. He remembered falling asleep at what he assumed was night. Then when he woke up he was once again tied down in that chair. The table in front of him and Alexis had once again been across the table. Then after what seemed like hours the room went dark and the.... alien walked in. Thats when they shocked them again. Aliens. He still had a hard time believing it. Who wouldn't? It seemed very unlikely that something like this would happen. He never believed in aliens. He wasn't even a big fan of alien movies. He had made it a habit to avoid them if he could. It just seemed ridiculous to him. But now he was having second thoughts. I mean when that shadow figure walked in to the room both times he looked like a tall human figure. He has yet seen anything to prove to him that they're aliens. But what about when Alexis said that they're not even on Earth? She said the sky doesn't look anything like Earths. Could she just be trying to get Adam going? She really didn't seem like that kind of person. Especially with how much she cries and how she looks. He doesn't think someone could lie like that in this sort of situation. Maybe she's just traumatized from everything that she's lost her mind and is making things up. That could be a very good possibility. He could smell something that was not there the last time. Looking over toward the door he noticed a trey, with what looked like food on it. He tried to stand up and walk to it but his legs still felt rubbery and gave out from underneath him. He knew there was food and he was starving. Doing the only thing he could think of he started crawling. The smell kept getting stronger and stronger as he got close. It had smelled so familiar but yet he couldn't make out what it was. As he inched his way closer he noticed there were two treys. No doubt one was there for Alexis as well. Getting closer he saw two glasses of water with it. Not very big though. Like it was in a dixie sized cup. Finally he got to the food and his mouth was watering. One piece of chicken breast for each of them. A little bit of mashed potatoes, about a spoonful of peas and for fruit half a banana for both of them. No utensils to eat with. That didn't bother him as he dug in. The chicken was the most bland piece of chicken he'd ever eaten but he was so hungry it was also the most delicious. It was dry and cold but he didn't care. Once he finished that he chowed down on the potatoes which tasted like instant boxed potatoes. The peas didn't take very long to eat not having much of them. And then he saved the best for last. The banana. It tasted so good to him. The sweetest tasting banana he had ever eaten. Once the banana was gone he chugged what little water there was. He stopped and just laid there as his stomach made noises of satisfaction. He thought about eating the other plate but decided Alexis needed to eat. She was still passed out though. Waiting for her to wake up he tried getting on his feet again. His legs weren't feeling as rubbery as before. He stood up, stumbled against the wall and stayed there leaning against it. The strength was slowly coming back. Very slowly he pushed himself away from the wall and could stand on his own again. Alexis had been out for quite some time now and Adam was starting to get worried. He went over to check and make sure she was still alive. He walked over and indeed she was alive. Still not awake however. He put his hand on her shoulder and shook her very easily. She moved a little but still didn't wake up. "Hey", he whispered, "Hey you should wake up and eat something." She groaned a little bit and then slowly opened her eyes. Her eyes squinting from the bright light. "What", she asked softly. "I said you should eat something. Get something in your body so you feel better." "How do you know what i feel like?" "Well judging by the way you look, you looked drain. Not enough sleep or food and dehydrated." She sat up and looked over at the food and then back at Adam. Raised an eyebrow and spoke up, "Well the food and water over there will stay. They're not going anywhere, i can eat them later. Getting sleep however? That opportunity isn't always going to be there." Adam looked at here knowing she was right and just nodded his head. After a few moments of awkward silence Adam finally spoke up. "So, are you going to eat then? I mean now that you are awake." "No, i'm not hungry. But thanks anyways." Adam looked over at the food not knowing what to do next. He thought about asking Alexis if he could have it but he wasn't hungry anymore. He ate his portion so quickly it filled him up for now. "Look if you want my food all the power to you. I'm not going to eat it so," she said as if she were reading his mind. And again he thought about it. "No, thats your food whether you want it or not. I'm not going to eat it. © 2010 Trevor |
