High Desert Flash Flood

High Desert Flash Flood

A Poem by ttom
"

The flash floods of the High Desert are sudden and violently destructive, deep emotions can be equally so.......................

"

High Desert Flash Flood

Deluge pours forth from within
Spilling, spreading, as

one stands still, aloof , time ceases
pain hangs in the balance, in  empty  moments

Silence prevails, while the
bleeding pools seep, again

Furrows wash, cutting through the barren dunes,
Fingers spread; eroding the landscape
Reaching, searching for answers

Fleeing in fear of  the  surging disaster
one , left behind; betrayed, a love is lost

Pain lashes out demanding recognition
Snarling, anger’s claws lacerate
one's words’ make  wounds
which never mend.

Flooding subsides
Consumed in the thirst of the sand
A fear denies existence of the flood , absorbing it all
Dark clouds pass, last droplets fall
Dripping from the Joshua tree

Forming a brief stain only I know
marking what  flowed
that  empted the depths

Of me
