Eternity

Eternity

A Poem by Nami

Every second an eternity,

A thousand thoughts fill my head.

My steps pace.

My heart beats

My mind flies.

I shake my head,

Trying rid my head from the

B i l l i o n   t h o u g h t s

My eyes squeeze shut,

Trying to

S h u t  t h e m  o u t.

One thought,

One word,

But others are there instead.

Shreds of paper,

Dance in the wind.

Whirling and whirling,

Forever overhead.

I jump and catch

A dozen.

But I need the others.

No matter how far I jump,

I can catch only nonsense.

No matter how low I scoop,

I can find only ideas.

I scribble them down,

Pen on paper.

Four.

Nineteen.

Tape Roller.

Toys.

Strewn.

Chaos.

Floors.

They make sense in my head,

But when the pen hits the paper,

When my mouth opens to speak,

When my fingers tap the keys.

I do not know what I’m thinking

What I’m saying.

Jumbled up.

Thoughts.

My slips of paper assembled.

Up and

Down and

Topsy-turvy.

I start a thought and know not where it leads me.

I say a word and another comes to mind just as fast.

I stop.

Breathe.

Think.

Let the world stop turning.

Let my mind

Find

Peace.
