False Realities

False Realities

A Poem by Terry L & Linda L Shuff
"

Poem on Movies and modern entertainment.

"
Players on the silver screen, what need of you have we?
Your barren victories you stage, are false realities.
for love of fame and fortune, violence and hate
their children pay the cost, the innocence they've lost.
No spotlight on the life of those, who face the daily strife
they do not crave the accolades, they value grace in life.
They are the stars that light the world, that blinds the shallow mind
Few are those that see them, and recognize their kind.

I do not know how to quantify the effectiveness of mass media since I do not participate in it to a large degree. I have not had satellite or cable TV most of my life & I've lived in the boondocks where going to the movies is a major trek not worth taking. My sister spent her life escaping thru reading Danielle Steele's books (an author I consider to be at the height of romantic escapism) -- I read books for almost the opposite reason, to read about REAL tragedy so that I can stop feeling sorry for myself in whatever challenges I face. Your poem is an interesting thought-provoking treatise on escapism (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Good philosophical points here. I just wonder why those who face the daily strife keep going to the movies.
