Right of Passage

Right of Passage

A Poem by Terry L & Linda L Shuff
"

commentary about cities plague

"
The sirens wail declares approach of night.
The illusion of days peace now  dissipates.
Eyes are cast toward the fading light
The role of fear  performs so well rehearsed.
The stewardship of day has passed the torch
Will the night stay true to deadly course?
Brightly burns the flame within young men.
As specters of the streets, they take their stand.
Held as hostages, the small and great.
The lawless ones, have right of passage claimed.

Your poem conveys a gritty scene taken straight from the streets. Since I grew up in the country, my rite of passage was quite different, so it’s interesting to see how most people slug their way into adulthood. I wish it weren’t such a struggle for some, but hopefully they gain character not mortal wounds. Love your realistic & creative writing (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
