Reverie

Reverie

A Poem by T. S.

Trudging through the forest

head bent towards Hell

listening to the night owl’s cry

I’ve lost myself in thoughts abounding

Silent arbors loom

hiding the innocent moon

casting eerie shadows

on the trodden ground below

Dead leaves and broken twigs

reveal a pilgrimage

of many troubled souls,

or maybe only one...

I’ve passed this tree before.

All the footprints lead one way

and in the muck and the decay

I see the familiar trace

of the path I used to take…

For the footprints are my own.

And on this journey

through my mind

I must reflect upon the time

I’ve lost musing over things

that will never change.

As dawn begins to break

I quickly hasten my pace;

I set my eyes on the horizon

And refuse to give up fighting

my way out of this

gloomy, dreary place.

In the distance I can see

a certain hope,

a reverie,

of brighter things to come.

Emerging from my mind,

I have gained a sense of time

that I wish to keep in check

For fear of going back

to the gloomy, dreary trails

of thoughts I’ve left behind.

I, like many others, use poetry as a catalyst for processing and healing. The words spill out, I arrange and rearrange into coherent thoughts without regard, and then move on. Mostly I just wish to sh.. more..
