Single Mom

Being a mom is hard enough. It is even harder when you have to do it alone. This poem is for all of those Moms. I was once one of them, and to a degree I still am!

Single Mom, working Mom, doing it all by herself Mom.
You do all the work and get none of the glory.
There are too many restless nights spent worrying how to make ends meet
There are too many days wasted in court chasing down a deadbeat.
You play both roles, both Dad and Mom.
You are the hero that too often goes unsung.
To me you are the example of strength and perseverance.
To your children you are simple Mom.
You often sacrifice your wants and needs.
You do it without hesitation and never let you children see.
It seems like a thankless job, and most days it is.
But here you are pushing on, doing what’s best for your kids.
Do not be disheartened for you will get your due.
Your children will one day be something and the thanks will go to you
Your child will stand on the stage someday with their Diploma in hand.
He will say it with his smile. I love you, thanks for being both Mom and Dad
