Almost

Almost

A Poem by Truman S. Booth
"

I almost didn't write this.

"
I almost said hi to her.
She almost said hi back.
I almost made a clever joke.
She almost laughed.
I almost asked her to a movie.
She almost said Yes.
We almost held hands.

I almost asked her out again.
She almost made time for me.
I almost took her to her favorite Italian restaurant.
She almost ordered my favorite dish.
I almost walked her to her door.
She almost bit her lip.
We almost kissed.

I almost hiked up a mountain with her.
She almost wore these cute blue shorts.
I almost brought my iPod with a playlist titled "For the Summit."
She almost picked her favorite song.
I almost put my arms around her waist.
She almost rested hers on my shoulders.
We almost danced.

I almost took her to her hometown.
She almost showed me her elementary school.
I almost reminded her we met there.
She almost remembered and gasped.
I almost knelt on one knee.
She almost said Yes.
We almost married.

She almost said Yes,
But I didn't say hi.

Just do it, indeed.

I read this not too long after you posted it, and it's stuck with me all day. Partly because I love how you wrote it, and partly because I do this all the time-- see someone and imagine all of these possibilities, and then realize that nothing ever happened between us because I never summoned up the courage to even talk to them. It's wierd.. I feel like you're reading my mind or something. Anyway. This is really good.. very easy to relate to, emotioal, but not over the top. That last line triggers an enormous flood of regret, I think... I don't know. I really like this.

You should write more often too, sir. Always a pleasure to read, and always a bright part of my day. Thank you.

About
I am a young writer, but I believe that talent knows no age--although they tend to increase together. There are a few things I love, and a few things I hate. I love language, piano, animated movie.. more..
