A Sob Story

A Sob Story

A Poem by William Maisonave

       A Sob Story...

I cry tears for the man I used to be.

cry tears for the boy who's lost inside of me.

I cry tears for all the years I've lost to "the game."

cry tears for all the time Old Man Time will never let me regain again.

I cry tears for all my comrads who"ve past away.

cry tears for the way of the world today.

I cry tears for all those addicted to poison and pain.

cry tears for those innocently afflicted and praying for change.

I cry tears for justice, balance, and right.

Cry Lord, please let these tears wash away the evils we all hold inside.

I cry tears for the young man who made one single mistake.

emotional overload sentenced him to forever and a day.

I cry tears for the man standing on the corner begging to eat.

wishing passerby could see past the tattered image to the man who lives beneath.

I cry tears for the teeage girl pregnant and confused.

no killer but knows better than to depend on some dude.

I cry tears for the woman spilled in the corner, both eyes black.

knows damn well the neighbors hear, yet nobody reacts.

Being a poet is oftentimes a curse. We see things most choose to ignore - cruel things, abominable things but then sometimes out of this pain and despair comes out something as heartfelt as this piece.
