In the Afternoon

In the Afternoon

A Poem by Anu Biswas

Sometimes a new friend invites me to explore
his mind
In a room full of old newspapers and coffee cups
stained with time
Asymmetric forms glint in white light; colours clash and clang
On muffled speakers Billy shouts piano man

He smiles as if to say here
take my thought
Turn it in your mind
Add, subtract, divide and make it sublime
Catch my words, flip them around;
Resonate with your sweet harmony divine

I gaze at purple shades,
Tap my boots and sink into my chair
A silken discovery of a languorous afternoon
beyond care

You writes are a treasure. I have yet to be let down by anything that I've read. I doubt I will. Cheers!

You have that magical gift of taking an afternoon and making its simplicity epic. I would frankly have preferred that the "harmony divine" not be there. I don't like adjectives at the end of things like in Italian or Spanish. I would have preferred "three quarter time" or something relative to music. But that's just me and I can never criticize your efforts because they scream from your soul and that's where poetry is supposed to be found. Great work, Anu.

quite a wonderful picture of words

Again, very beautiful. So intrigued by your intrigues, or so to speak. I particularly like your invocation of a kind of mathematical language; 'assymetric forms' 'add, subtract, divide and make it sublime' and then placing them in parallel with such lines as 'resonate with your sweet harmony divine'. As always, I remain amazed.
