A note to self

A note to self

A Poem by Trivén

Where to start when it's already begun
What to do when it's already done

Pulled out from under your feet
Pummeled by emotion you don't know how to meet

Jostled awake, this is the new you
I've been here all along, just let me though

No more hiding, no more fear
Let things fall where they fall
Stop holding back and the need to control
You're allowed to fail among near and dear

Trust is not an action you can take
Nor a one-sided thing
Trust is a state of being
Only two caring people can together bring

So stop thinking, start to feel
Get out of your head, embrace what's real

It will be scary, it will be hard
It's not a fight, so drop your guard
It'll all be worth it, though there will be scars
Forgive yourself, for all have flaws

It's not a game, it's not a fight
You cannot win, only attempt what's right
What's right in the moment don't always stand up to time
You only know what you know now because you did it, and that's fine

Self compassion is not done with thoughts
Experience is not imagination
Ifs and buts and oughts
Cannot replace honest conversation

Please put that intellect aside from time to time
Start to do and dare to feel
Walls once thought solid, in them doors outline
Take a leap of faith and open one
Things not a million thoughts would bring
Will therethrough reveal

Trust is a state of being
Only two caring people together can bring
Be open, be honest, give care to the past you
Open your eyes and heart and trust will come through
Dare to love and lose, and start living
Believe in yourself and others, that together we'll make this thing we call life, a wonderful thing
