House Hunting

House Hunting

A Poem by Tristan E

sleepless nights
i don't regret them
i think of you-
your curious eyes, your humble smile-
they keep me awake more then coffee.
then i remember you-
your fear of commitment, your flighty nature-
i know you don't lose a wink of sleep
thinking about me.

you touched me and it was electric
you said the same of me-
that i set fire to your veins-
but i guess that warmth never reached your heart.

you got under my skin
you said you felt safe in me-
that you and i meshed into one and it was like home-
but we were never truly together.

you got me!
hook, line, and sinker-
your barb caught in my heart strings
you dragged me behind you
never looking back-
and i called it love.

and now i have woken up two hours before my alarm
thinking of how your skin would feel against mine
between the sheets

we were an apartment
we were close
but still
we were separate
and together
we
fell
apart
