What NIght BringsA Poem by MortriciaIt's one thing to be afraid of the dark. It's another to be afraid of what's in it.Darkness surrounds me like cold surrounds ice heart beating faster once a second; twice
there's a chill in the air not a window is cracked just my eyes are open, my mouth is slacked
fear fills my blood pulsing through me like mad the bravery from day is only something I had
but light is gone now there's only smothering black sweat beads at my temples and pours from my back
I close my eyes for relief but they open with a snap the darkness is there, too suddenly, I hear a "tap"
Is it my imagination? Am I losing my head? But wait; what was that? Just under my bed
Something was crawling and creeping about is it after me? I can hardly doubt
I pull my feet closer to me under the sheets still, my heart races; faster it beats
my eyes dart around looking for suspicious things it's always this way; it's what night brings.
