![]() What NIght BringsA Poem by Mortricia![]() It's one thing to be afraid of the dark. It's another to be afraid of what's in it.![]() Darkness surrounds me like cold surrounds ice heart beating faster once a second; twice
there's a chill in the air not a window is cracked just my eyes are open, my mouth is slacked
fear fills my blood pulsing through me like mad the bravery from day is only something I had
but light is gone now there's only smothering black sweat beads at my temples and pours from my back
I close my eyes for relief but they open with a snap the darkness is there, too suddenly, I hear a "tap"
Is it my imagination? Am I losing my head? But wait; what was that? Just under my bed
Something was crawling and creeping about is it after me? I can hardly doubt
I pull my feet closer to me under the sheets still, my heart races; faster it beats
my eyes dart around looking for suspicious things it's always this way; it's what night brings.
