The Wasteland

The Wasteland

A Poem by Trinity
"

Another British literature class writing. This time the deal was with T.S.Eliot's "The Wasteland". We had to create our own "Wasteland" using Eliot's one as an example. Full of allusions.

"

The lilacs from the cruel land
Are still breeding, desire
For anything is gone, and
So are the feelings.
Forged ones taking everything
They can, empty of memories and ties.
Ist das leben oder was…
For once there in Salem roamed
The ringed people in sun
To be now in ashes, in smouldering
Pieces.

The hooded guy on the bridge gave
Three young men three gifts.
But that did not make change
To the land. Just the reefs
came out of the water.
A cave opened.
A medallion.
A bowl of poison.
And destruction struck.

Unreal beasts, winging their way up
Into the grey cold sky, but not
For everyone to see, only the Chosen Ones.
The Ones with the golden cup,
Fighting their way through enormous tasks
Given just for them to brood,
Cerebrate, ponder, mull…
Upon!

No way back, just death ahead, sneering
At their feeble tries to earn the presents fair and square.
But the last one, the final one, the Chosen One…
No.
Him neither.Or…
YES!
He does it. He sees it. He defeats it.

He dies. In the wasteland.
