Hate

Hate

A Poem by Ricky Campbell

Hate, hate, hate

Why do we tend to hate?

Why do we go to war instead of acting civil?

Why do we kill to tell others not to kill?

Doesn't that contradict everything?

No, because we are America home of the corrupt

Who was once split in half over a topic so absurd

Is it ok to treat a human being like a piece of property?

For a long time, all mighty American and the rest of the world said yes

This was a Democracy, the best government of all!

The government was shoved down everybody's throats

Not only everyone in our country, but in countless others too

And we act offended when other countries try to act like we do

Most of our citizens are too stupid to realize how we act

Claiming we do it for justice! Since when is killing just?

We kill the same people we are trying to save

And when they fire back, we release a rampage

Remember those pieces of property?
Well now one runs our country

A black man as president whose goal is to set a

New precedent of living for a country so blatantly corrupt

Trying to grab our economy and pull it back up

Ignoring all of our ugly history and looking forward

If we should give someone respect, to him, it should be toward

Hi! This line: "Claiming we do it for justice! Since when is killing just?" - Powerful! I think everywhere in the world we have these issues with the government. Great topic! I suggest adding more uncommon words, but overall good. Nice contemporary style of writing. Keep it up!

These are the real questions about modern America, aren't they? Very thought provoking. Nicely written.

I liked this, definitely a really powerful message behind it. I feel like you have a big interest in politics after reading this poem, you're at the very least an Obama supporter haha. I think you can make a new stanza starting with "A black man as president" and it would make it even more powerful.

because we follow man instead of god,and man has egos and don`t like to be told no
so they get mad and cause war,god made all men equal but some want to rise above others
and spread there warped mind on us

Hey Ricky, last poem. Okay...

I would cut out the line "Is it okay..." because no one thinks that that was okay. No one ever says they were proud their great great great great... Grandparents fought to keep slavery. No one would be proud to say their great great... Grandparents rallied against Martin Luther King Jr. That was my only change to make. Haha sorry I can't be of more help. Email me at [email protected] if you ever write anymore or get your poems published. I'd love to read some more!

Last thing, I'm reading Invictus. The book about Nelson Mandela. It's really good and I since you're interested in the topic I hope you'll read it or watch the movie. Morgan Freeman is so distracting though. The whole time I expected him to look at Francios and say "Hello, I... am God"

Okay I got really off topic. It's too late (here) to be writing a review. Anyway, I'll check back in the morning if you need me to elaborate on anything. Best of luck!
