Desire

Desire

A Poem by Ricky Campbell
"

We all can feel alone sometimes

"
Desire is like gasoline, it can be used for the better or worse
It can fuel your engine and take you far
Or burn down your hopes and dreams
Desire in a way drives us all mad, but that can be good
Drive you mad enough so you go where others are afraid
And possibly change the world for the better
It can also lead you to the negative extremes
Where we all steer clear of
But in this case, I desire a companion
And yeah I know, who doesn't?
But holding onto your thoughts is dangerous indeed
Writing them down, or talking them through is healthy
And my hand is tired
Someone to encourage me when I set a goal
And to pick me up when I fall down
Someone just to lay by my side when we are too tired to carry on
And just relax, how great does that seem?
Somebody beautiful, on the inside and out
One who looks out for others before themselves, just like me
A leader who can lead me out of a rut
Mostly just somebody to care when all is wrong
When hope is lost and desire is on low
Someone to boost it back up
I want a companion, but yeah who doesnt?

Great thoughts, and yes, we all would like to have that special companion. I got lucky and found my wife. Together we've spent thousands of hours enjoying life as it should be.
What I liked, your description of desire and its affect on us.
Your description of that special someone.
I couldn't really find any faults.

Really liked the way this came across. Seems a perfect spoken word piece. Great conversation almost sullen mood. Great goals to have.

We all have desires, but that's the beauty of them huh? Coming in all shapes and sizes but desires all the same. I love the line "Desire is like gasoline", i couldn't think of a better thing to compare it to. Nicely done

Great topic. Awesome way to introduce and ride it to the end. make the format a little more pleasing but other than that. thumbs up!

Good work, I love the opening phrase "Desire is like gasoline". Overall this could benefit from a little editing. especially regarding a couple of superfluous uses of 'the", such as "the better or worse" and "to the negative extremes" and I would change the "where' in "where we all steer clear of" to "that". Overall a good poem on a topic a lot of people can relate to. I hope you find your someone!

Companions are hard to come by, whether it is your future wife, husband, room-mate adopted child. Everything we do and do hard for them is difficult in life. I love the effort you put in all of your poems, they always entertain me and I'm always excited and happy to read them. I'm only a novice myself, so there is not much I can give on improvement. Just keep writing and never give up.

Your play on words is brilliant. Your reference to gasoline and going into the better and worse is great. The positive and negative of desire...again, brilliant. Referring to thoughts being dangerous, but then saying how to deal with them in a healthy way....making your hand tired. Again, brilliant.
Now for the "advice" part...I'm not real good at that, but I'll give it a try. Truly, I love all of your poem and again, I will say, Brilliant. I think the only thing I might recommend would be, since you have named the poem "Desire", instead of stopping the poem with the line, "I want a companion, buy yeah who doesn't?"...take it one more line that has to do with desire. Maybe something to the effect of, "Desire...Do you have it? I do, but who doesn't?"
You have a lot of talent. Keep writing!!
