We Were OneA Poem by TrebleA poem about my birdA
butterfly perched reminding
me of my little bird. A
singer who sang a
vivace tune of friendship. Her
eyes told me only
of innocence. The
beauty of knowing nothing but
simple truths. One
day I sat down to write a story. She
beckoned me. I
took her out. She
longed for affection. I
saw one color bright
on her wings. Red,
like a sign, “I’ll
stay strong until you tell me to let go. I
tried to tell her how I loved her as
a mother tells her child. But
as I spoke her
eyes closed shut. I
would almost see her refusing
to leave my heart, refusing
to let go of the previously
possible, palpable future times together. Her
wings no longer opened
to flight. But
I knew that nothing could
separate us. We
were one. © 2011 Treble |
