Daddy and Mommy Say

Daddy and Mommy Say

A Poem by Treble

Why am I always
Stuck in the middle?

Pulled two ways?

Mommy says daddy's doing everything wrong.
Daddy says mommy's doing everything wrong.
Mommy says daddy breaks rules.
Daddy says mommy has a temper.
Mommy says daddy's close-minded.
Daddy says mommy's no good.
Mommy says,
"tell daddy this and that."
Daddy says,
"tell mommy this and that."

Someone pull me out of this quicksand.

Someone help me out of this river of rocks.

Someone help me out of this forest.

I'm lost.

Mommy says daddy's doing everything wrong.
Daddy says mommy's doing everything wrong.
Mommy says daddy breaks rules.
Daddy says mommy has a temper.
Mommy says daddy's close-minded.
Daddy says mommy's no good.
Mommy says,
"tell daddy this and that."
Daddy says,
"tell mommy this and that."

I say,
"I'm the kid.
Don't make me choose.
Don't make me the messenger.
I'm just the kid,
So let me be the kid."

There's that innocent vocabulary that makes this more emotional and powerful. Making the reader feel like they are, or listening to a young distressed child. The feeling of parents fighting and on the range of divorce is a familiar uncomfortable feeling. Good write.
