A Thousand Miles

A Thousand Miles

A Poem by Treble

As children sleep and shadows fade,
The stars come out, the darkness glows.
I stand alone, where children played,
And I look straight, where water flows.
Around me, not a sound is near,
And here I am, I’m standing here.

The sun shines bright, a blue jay calls,
An everlasting sound of joy
That travels over highest walls,
Behind which stands a little boy.
That little boy would wave to me.
He’d run to me and laugh with glee.

He is the youngest scamp I know,
A playful little joy to hold.
Yes, in my arms he goes to show,
A scamp he is, and still twofold,
For in my arms, he’s in my heart.
A thousand miles can’t do us part.

I could tell you are very fond of children, by the way you speak of them. Though not my usual genre, I enjoyed much.
