Samples of Humanity

Samples of Humanity

A Poem by ...
"

All kinds of people

"
Some are grass that walked upon
will rise once more.
Some are lakes with changing colors
and disturbing reflections...
others, lumps of coal.
There are deeply rooted trees
cleansed by breezes.
Tiny wildflowers trampled by cattle.
There are, Hyenas and hurricanes...
and those slow, steady, rivers,
carving canyons out of rock.
Samples of humanity,
that nature speaks of us.

actually started writing it so many years ago but it got lost in shuffles and then I tried to finish it years later and this is what I ended up with. It lost flow or something in the time. It isn't what I wanted it to be but for some reason I had to try and finish it...shrugs. It's one of those not quite satisfied but posted it anyway things

Would like to read its 'unfinished' verse either. Lovely concept you brightly spoke in words. Humani.. read more
I like this thought. Very cool way to look at humanity.

no need pretending that humanity is anything driven by men in gray suites. "the smallest sprout shows there is really no death, and if ever there was it led forward life, and does not wait at the end to arrest it, and ceased the moment life appeared", Whitman wrote in "Song of Myself".

Perhaps man knows no real human and wants in his inner most, secret self to be left alone in
his deceit and retreat from civility. Intrigue and scandal is far more fun than lovely poem
writing, just like naked women are far more fun than women in mink coats. So the naked woman
in a mink coat becomes the illusion of ultimate sexuality. Or like my old school mate use to tell me,
"it's better to be corrupt than lucky". The samples of humanity you speak of lynn are sadly
those that stabilize an eco-system, devoid of mankind.

a wonderful write my friend....dana

I adore the first two lines, as some humans have been 'walked upon' more often that others. It takes true strength to rise again. this is a gorgeous poem, I like how you've taken nature and made the imagery so pretty.

' Tiny wildflowers trampled by cattle. -- There are, Hyenas and hurricanes...and those slow, steady, rivers, -- carving canyons out of rock. '

We're all living so of course the same-nesses are there right before our eyes, we just have to look hard and harder. So love the read and feel of this poem and as always you've used phrases with skill and gentleness, Lynn

indeed indeed we all have unique eyes in which we view the world - nice - I am trying to fugure out which one of these I am most often and which one of these I am least often because of course all of them are within us right ? X

Thank you Anne :)
how clever of you to assign personalities to various forms of nature!

wish i had thought to do that!!

and so very well done!!!

"slow, steady rivers carving canyons out of rock"....wonderful! these are the people i admire most...the persistent folks who chip away at the obstacles in their lives...
