NO-THING

NO-THING

A Poem by ...

To my "daddy" I was "drippings"
Ya, I s**t you not.
A squirt for someone else to raise,
or not...he didn't care either way.
I was no reason to give a damn.
Not a second thought.

To my mother I was a REASON,
To show his a*s up.
To say, "hey b*****d I did it"
She did it.
I'm raised.
Had everything I needed
but encouragement and hugs.
How do I know he said that?
Mom wanted me to know.

To my husband I was one of many women
he abused along his way.
Raised two of his many children
He never saw fit to help raise

To many others I was a thought or two...
maybe three,
but thoughts are fleeting.
Life to busy
to bother with the nothing...
that's me.

To YOU I was interesting...
for a while,
but already unimportant...disposable,
and placed in the cordial hello category
for kindness sake
kindness pays me no mind

I am many Things.
all these things I've been.
all these things I've become.
Some-thing to rape
Some-thing to beat
Some-thing to cheat
Some-thing to use
Some-thing to lie to
Some-thing to leave
Some-thing to forget...

I am many THINGS to many people,
but I'm here to tell you,I am NO-THING...
at all

People who abuse, I believe will pay with bad karma here or in hell. You re not nothing. You are everything. Thank you dear Poet for sharing the thought provoking poetry.

You've had quite a battle in life and not a road anyone would want to take. I almost had no parents, also--no hugs, no "I love yous", nothing to wear and not even much food. That kind of beginning sends you out into the world with a very hungry heart, and that's not a good thing. It sounds like you came out the other end a lot wiser.

Wow I can so relate to parts of this piece.
It's very sad, but a powerful write.

This is a very potent poem, Lynn. You eloquently illustrated the plight of some women in our society. I was vigorously nodding my head in agreement with your closing stanza. We are NOT an inanimate thing. Goes to my fave :)

When we realize that we are not just a thing, we grow. It takes so many of us time to digest that without each seed there would be no life, without each drop of water there would be no strength. In your some-things you have reached the level of life. The willingness to live is everything! Peace be with you dear poet!

You are welcome Lynn.
A heartrending account!--that ends with triumphant defiance.
Taking s**t from anybody doesn't seem to be in your future, Lynn.
Nifty bit of work!

lynn: Love it, very honest and forthright, packed full of emotions and insight. I think the title is very clever, like your composition, NO-THING. Great. It is very sad, if it's true, I am sorry, but it seems that you have great hopes and have learned how not to be treated. This has a broad audience with universal appeal because unfortunately, what you have described so well, happens every second of evryday. Just wonderful work. Thank you so very much. Wonderful. Keep writing. Dale
In stanza 3, I almost thought you were going to write praise (as a rhyme for praise) but it's still very good
In one of my poems, I call scars, souveneirs, I got some too!
