A Poem by Cameron
"

Something I scribbled at some point, which is when I tend to do my best writing.

"
In your world,
one and one is as much as you want
And all the green lights stay green for you,
and only you -
they turn red for me ;

But we rush up anyway,
like we've got somewhere to be,
yet there's nowhere to go,
and nothing to see.
Just the same damn streets,
and the shops that we have memorized so well,
we could traverse them in our sleep

These billboards still hold holiday messages,
but that was months ago ;
everything changes too slow.

So set us free, or choke until we cannot breathe,
but the leash has got to go either way

They swear they'll liberate you for a fee,
so we buy and buy,
but they just dig the well so deep
that even the rescue teams will shake their heads and go home

And we will sing a dead hymn from that black abyss
and reach for our wallets again,
though they're as empty as the hole we live in,
and our hands have gone numb from their squeezing.
