We Lived Like Candles

We Lived Like Candles

A Poem by Cameron
"

The best song I ever forgot how to play.

"
Julia's eyes were tired and dry
by the time she arrived at your home in the canyon
The summer was long and she wasn't so strong,
but she moved right along 'cause she felt so compelled
She slept on the couch 'til the cushions wore out ;
then she packed up her bags, left a note on the table
And then she was gone with a wave and a yawn,
and you never laid eyes on her thin form again.

Please place her grave next to mine when it's all said and done

Julia's eyes were wild and wide ;
it was clear that she thrived on the thrill of the ride
Her hands reached the sky, but the moon was too high
So she tried and she tried, but it still passed her by.
They all came around, and they soon reached the ground
without making a sound ; she had stars in her hands.
The gates then detached as the doorman held the latch,
and ushered them into the bright night around

Please place my grave in this ground when it's all said and done

And my girl, when it's over, we won't even be sad,
For we lived like candles with wicks on both end.

Julia sighs as she lays by your side
In this bedroom, she hides from the big world outside
The streetlights come on and stay bright until dawn,
but the two of you sleep 'til the shadows are gone

Please place our graves in this ground when it's all said and done.
