A Traditional ChristmasA Poem by CameronThe only good holiday song I ever wrote.
The holly is hanging, the carollers singing, and the snow's falling softly on the ground
The food's in the oven, and the family is here. Their voices just add to the sound of the chorus repeating in the cold air that's freezing all the noses of the crowd in the drive And grandpa just fell fast asleep in his chair while the family's taking pictures of the tree's decorations. It's Christmas Eve again Yuletide confections in the best of selections on a table in the hallway as you come in the door. The children are hyper, and at night they can't sleep ; is it the coming of Santa, or the sugar in their bloodstreams? By 5 a.m., they just cannot sit still, so they rush to mom and dad's room with their screaming so shrill As they open their presents, dad's asleep on the couch with the camera in hand, potential memories just slipping down the drain... It's Christmas day again The new year is knocking on the door, ready to come in and sit for a while. Grandpa just woke up, and he's shaking his head at the scene that's assaulting his eyes : Children on the floor amidst the wrappings of presents, and the parents collapsed right on time. The snow is still falling ; the neighbors are calling to see if the house is still there. And grandpa just smiles and says that they're fine, and he hangs up the phone, and he closes his eyes.
