My First Poem

Raindrops on a leaf

some puddles under a tree

raining down on me.

Author's Note

This was an excerise in a fourth grade spelling book believe it or not. If I remember correctly we were supplied the vocabulary word "raindrops" and instructed to write a hiku around it. This was my very first poem and if you read into it can be about sadness building up slowly or it can simply be about rain. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I would love to know what your thoughts are.

Interesting what you thought as a fourth grader! You are saying that there is depth to this, which interests me . Normally children at that age don't have such deep thoughts. Being a thinker myself, I'm impressed.

I don't know that I'd call it "deep" the whole dark rain cloud hanging over your head thing is in cartoons all the time. It's not that much of a stretch. There was a picture drawn next to it that sort of looked like that. It was a very long time ago, who knows what I was thinking. In any case, thank you for your thoughts!

Brilliant! Beings back memories of when I used to walk home from school when it was raining. I would get under the leaves of a huge chestnut tree to get out of the rain. Thanks for the memory. :)
