THE GIRL IN THE MIRROR

THE GIRL IN THE MIRROR

A Poem by tranquilspace
"

WHEN THE ONLY PERSON THAT'S THERE FOR YOU IS YOUR REFECTION

"

Cutting and tearing that pale skin,

Blood flows with relief in a mirror,

Smile from the beyond mirror.

Tears fall like the rain yet

The reflections’ smile remains the same

But she doesn’t notice the blood

Just the relief of it flowing down.

Her broken mind,

Her broken heart and soul

Is beyond shards just shattered.

The only thing that notices her hurt

Is the mirror, her.

Yet it grants her solace that

No one ever gave.

Cutting brings relief from anxiety. I know that to be true because adolescents have told me so. I don't understand it because when I was young we didn't do this stuff. Maybe we drank more instead? I just want to give that girl in the mirror a hug. Yes I do.

You are welcome :)
"Relief" is mentioned twice in the first half of the poem. I have heard that self mutilation provides some kind of relief to its practitioners, but I have never understood it. This work gives some of a clue. Apparently the buildup of anxiety and emotional pain becomes so unbearable that the cutting diverts the attention enough to provide something of a safety valve. It is a hard row to hoe, and my sympathy goes out to anyone caught in this grim repetition.
