Uncle Smoke

Uncle Smoke

A Poem by Kris Tate

Cajun
Coon-a*s
Swamp-rat
Is what he is

Teaching me
To cook
To laugh
To cry

Gumbo
Jambalaya
Dirty rice
Boudin

Smells of Louisiana
The swamp
Magnolias
Craw fish

All bring me back
To dancing in the kitchen
Fish fries
Cajun French floating

Uncle Smoke
The man
Who taught me
What is it is live

Now I'm hungry. That's a fine uncle to teach you so much, Kris. A very good poem, too.
