Iron Wall, Silk Curtain

Iron Wall, Silk Curtain

A Story by Kris Tate

Robert sits next to a plain wood door, wondering why he is there. Sent from America to China for his first solo interview, he waits. Behind the door the Famous Leo Ku drapes the red silk kimono over her porcelain body. Robert stands as the door swings open and short lady with long raven hair exits. She leads him into her dressing room

Once inside the room Leo Ku takes Robert to the couch. The blood red of the room makes him look very pale and colorless. His mind trying to translate all of the hundreds of questions into Chinese. She hands him a glass of wine. His last thought before he falls into the abyss is about what to ask first.

A man slips from behind a curtain, and smiles. His dark eyes aglow with the thought of what he is to do. He slips the poisoned bottle of wine into his bag, and takes the glass from the pale hand of Leo Ku. Slowly, methodically he erases all traces of the poisoned wine. He looks around the room again to make sure he got all the evidence.

Light flashes on a steel edge, as he pulls the dagger out of its sheath. He stands over the limp form of Leo Ku and smiles that evil smile again. Raising his arm he thrust the dagger deep into her chest. He turns and pulls Robert off the couch and puts his hand around the dagger. As he leaves the room he looks one more time to make sure everything is perfect, then he walks out the door.

Robert wakes to being dragged off Leo Ku. The police asking him the same questions over and over in the small dressing room. When they realize that he will not or can not answer the questions they ask they decide to take him in. As they take him out the door into the street, where thousands of Leo Ku's fans wait to see who has killed her, a single shot rings out and a little hole appears in Robert's shirt front.

'Damn I am having a rough day,' is the last thought of the American as he sinks to the ground.

I really liked this:D. It's very suspenseful and then the twist at the end was, well, a twist. I loved it.
